It’s time for a monthly roundup of the best sessions. This month we’ve posted 19 tracks and recorded 11 sessions.
Check out the best of September 2017 below.
Howlin’ Ric & The Rocketeers – One Last Drink (Original)
The guys came down from Leeds on a self-funded tour of East Kent. They tend to take their 50’s style Rockabilly on the road whenever they can. A day after the session we went and caught one of their live gigs at The Fez in Margate. All we can say is if you ever see these guys being advertised to play near you, go and see them!
Dan Venes – Free Spirit (Original)
This was the second session from the magnificent Dan Venes. He brings his masterful Blues down to Margate whenever he can. A prolific songwriter in his own right (check him out on Facebook to see his regular videos), Dan wrote this track to his late friend Max
Collateral (Formerly The Angelo Tristan Band) – Midnight Queen (Original)
We were so happy to get Collateral in session. Their style is usually a bit heavier but their stripped back acoustic really resonated with our Facebook audience, where their 3 videos this month gained over 3000 views combined.
BODHI – Your Vibration (Original)
BODHI came along with a full on setup. We weren’t sure what to expect but we were blown away. The way he constructs every track, beat by beat. He really is a master of his art.
Luke Jackson – Treat Me Mean, Keep Me Keen (Original)
We were close to including a cover Luke did in session this month which was just sensational. But ultimately we’re going to post the originals more than covers in this roundup list. Luke is arguably one of the biggest acts we’ve had on our humble little sofa. He’s played with some major names and has appear on the fantastic Sofar Sounds London. We were over the moon with his session, and so were the audience!
Mark Lees – This Is My Life (Original)
If we could give a prize for the nicest bloke to appear in a session, Mark would win hands down! We spent just as long chatting as we did recording. Mark came in and recorded 2 originals and 2 covers with his originals (including this one) delivering a fantastic message through his lyrics.
The Silent Companions – Dead Mans Hand (Original)
What more can be said about The Silent Companions. As Lead Singer/Uke/Gong puts it, the band are like the first band you put together in high school. The difference is that these guys really deliver. The band recently won the magnificent Herne Bay Rocks, which is a Battle of the Bands Festival in Herne Bay every August.
Their style has been described as Pirate-Gypsy-Jazz-Punk. It’s hard to disagree to be honest!
The Grand Merci (Formerly The Simmons Brothers Project) – Did I (Original)
Aaron & Sam, aka The Grand Merci, really wowed us. Their style may seem fairly standard on the face of it – Singer + Guitarist. However they couldn’t be more different from the pack. Aaron delivers a truly unique vocal while Sam backs him up with exemplary guitar skills. These guys are gigging a lot so make sure to go and see them at every opportunity.
Estelle Mey – Cloud (Original)
Estelle Mey popped on over from France to deliver 4 fantastic originals. The girl can really rock! What a session!
