Thrift at the Penny Theatre

Finding New Music

I’m so pleased I came across Thrift at the Penny Theatre – they were support to Tin Foil Astronaut.

Thrift were exactly what I wanted to hear, classy tunes that emanate from music influenced by Pink Floyd, Tame Impala and Pond, this five piece delivered a mix of psychedelia infused rock, that really worked with the synths.

Thrift by no means copied their influencers, but really put them in to their own unique sound.

To sit and listen was very enjoyable as I felt they were akin to R.E.M., with a more modern theme & a twist of Numan, in essence. Thrift have an excellent blend of keyboards and fuzzy as well as forceful guitars. Vocals that have to be top quality and the man on the skins kept them all in place. The majority of their playlist came from their new E.P. Red Tinted Clouds.

This band performed exceptionally. They had a feel that they had played together for years and gave a really good accomplished performance. The delivery of their music was excellent, all original music and a delight to hit the ears.

A band I really will have to see again, I’m so pleased they are based around the Dover area and do gigs further into the county.

If you can’t get to see them live, then the E.P. ‘Red Tinted Clouds’ is out now – It’s well worth a listen! You can find more about the band on their Facebook page including gig information.
